Pros
You get to learn to love the residents. You get your schedule a month in advance. You get certified in First Aid and CPR.
Cons
The company can pop you for overnight- and as a student, they didn't care that I had class at 8am- you were theirs until 530am. The staff was horrible- yes, there is abuse and neglect. You try your best to keep the residents safe and happy. But if you're not in a staff's "clique," then chances are they will leave you in dangerous situations alone during a code, or ultimately blame you for a behavior. Favoritism among upper management. If you don't smoke- consider yourself an outcast. You're more likely to be called into a supervisor's office over gossip control than you are to be called in for serious situations. I haven't seen so many cover-ups since I saw a make-up shelf at CVS.
