Pros

Love for animals and their humans

Cons

Toxic behavior from owner who doesn't trust her staff. Communication breakdowns and a lack of empathy for employees. Berating and cruel environment. Horrible software that no other vet clinic I know of uses and no training. No leadership or professional growth. Never knew what "mood" would set the day and passive aggressive.

Pros

Has amazing clientele who bring in awesome pets! If the clients only knew how the staff was treated…..

Cons

Literally the worst practice to work for…..the owner is greedy and money hungry she overcharges and underpays her staff. Belittles and verbally abuses staff members. Made degrading remarks about a staff members disabilities and will even talk poorly about clients after they leave. Cannot seem to keep a single staff member for more than a year or two tops.

Pros

You can see animals daily.

Cons

The staff you see if you visit this location is 100% different from when I started there 1 year ago. She cleaned house. And that group of people had all been hired approximately 2 years prior from another clean sweep of layoffs and rehires. During my employment, the practice manager was fired and a new one never hired. The head vet was the owner and tried to handle everything from money to patients to clients to training. She refused to hire people when we were saying we were overworked and told us we were not being overworked and she proceeded to fire 5 people and push out three others with her attitude. Patient care was often compromised due to lack of training, lack of time for appointments, and even poor judgement calls by the doctors at times. I personally watched the owner/lead vet respond to the request, "please tell me where I went wrong, I'm not sure what you need from me." With, "I want you to use your common sense." There was no follow up. This was not helpful in the slightest and it was nasty and cruel to the employee. I was pushed to perform tasks with little to no training and told, "I HAVE to know how to do this. Its your job." We were told to turn NO ONE away when we were not an emergency clinic and did not have the staffing to see that many patients. There was an issue once that took 10 min to resolve and during that time the owner/head vet openly and loudly in the main treatment area called her husband and told him she was going to be late because she had to fix an issue that we created. Just rubbing it into our faces and belittling us. She trusts no one but herself. She has unreasonable standards with little to no plan to execute them. She would get mad at other techs for not training me when there was no plan in place and no system for training. She told us we were purposefully turning away clients when we were booked almost every day. She told us we were sabotaging her and her business. She said she had no one but the clients. She began cutting our benefits and changing policies without notifying anyone. She took the $75 monthly benefit for goods and services away RETROACTIVELY and then told us we had been "being naughty" to have gotten that benefit. Like we strong armed her for it. We didn't. It was in my employee printout when I started. She refused to give an employee her 401k information after terminating her. She will wait weeks and weeks to respond to unemployment requests, if she does at all. I have PTSD from working at this location. I was told and always felt I had a knack with animals, but I literally want to cry thinking about working at a vet again because of this experience at this vet. I ended many nights in tears, my personal life disappeared, I would have anxiety nightmares, I would scramble at work every day just to keep her eyes from being on me. I watched her slap away the hands of a fellow employee multiple times as that employee was trying to do her normal job, instead of speaking to that employee and instructing. Shes like an abusive parent. Berating us in the treatment room individually, but when we had a staff meeting it was all, "everything is great, its fine, were great." And when we asked to talk about the issues around why this employee you just fired got mad at you, she says, "I'm not going to talk about that now." And she never talked about it. She never wanted to hash things out with us. Her actions were shallow and avoidant and slimy. If you arent strong enough to take criticism, then you arent strong enough to be a boss. Again this is a business with less than 10 employees. I'm pretty sure there can be a dialog. Its not a corporation. If you want happy and long term employees, treat them with respect. Include them. This isnt some 1000 employee company. You talk to us every day, unfortunately she was always talking down to us. One could say that with her 100% new staff she might be better, but from my experience and listening to those close to her, I feel this is only temporary and the owner of this location will start developing distrust and paranoia again. I could already see it happening as I left.
