Pros

First and foremost, I love the people I work with. Working at BambooHR is a very unique experience in that every single person I interact with, is all focused on providing an amazing experience for our customers, and making their lives better with our software. it isn't just the role of the support department to care about the customers. Product designs with the customer experience in mind; development writes code keeping in mind how changes may affect customers; etc. It is rewarding and fulfilling to be part of a group like that all moving in the same direction. Secondly, this company and the work I do here is about more than just clocking in and out for a job. Our CEO and COO have mentioned multiple times that when they started this business, one of the main criteria was that it had to be something that improved people's lives. I love the higher purpose, as it gives context and understanding as to why I'm doing the things I do, and it gives me motivation and inspiration in wanting to live up to that higher standard with everything I do. The third thing I love about BambooHR is the culture. BambooHR has a list of values for the company, and unlike other places I have worked, people here actually live them - they aren't just given lip service. The executive team provides regular training for us on these values and how we can better incorporate them into our work. As we talk in our smaller teams, we talk about our individual role responsibilities in relation to our values. People here firmly believe in what they are doing, and in doing things the "Bamboo Way" which is a real thing here. Although there are many other things I could say, one final thing I would like to share that I really feel gives an idea of who BambooHR is, can be seen through the benefits they offer. They cover standard benefits, but then when they have the opportunity to do something additional, they have chosen some really unique items. The first is their "paid paid vacation" in which they offer to reimburse on certain vacation costs. Additionally, they cover the cost of the Financial Peace University (think the Dave Ramsey get out of debt/investment program) class, and give a little mini-bonus when people complete it. The reason I love this, is not only does BambooHR take care of the standard things, but these extra benefits I feel are chosen because the company believes that they enrich the lives of our employees as a whole. No matter how long someone is with BambooHR, they will take those experiences from paid paid vacation with them. And, let's face it, who doesn't benefit from a refresher on budgeting and investment skills. I guess what all of this boils down to, is this company cares about me as an individual. They want me to love my work, find satisfaction and joy in it, and they want me to be a rockstar in my role, and everything they do is to help me become a better person, and I am so grateful for the privilege of working here at BambooHR.

Cons

I don't have a "con" but rather, the biggest challenge I see at BambooHR is the rapid growth we have experienced. It can be tricky when you are hiring lots of people to make sure they are all trained, that everyone you hire is a culture fit, and that you keep a spotlight on the culture and ensure that it doesn't get off course. BambooHR is tenacious about retaining our culture, and so it has been fun to participate in, and see the different strategies that our leadership team has developed to help ensure the integrity of the culture. The other great thing here, is that every person here jealously guards the culture as well, and so it isn't just the leadership trying to help new people get a feel for who we are - every employee does that every day by the way that they conduct themselves and interact with everyone.

Pros

At the end of my tenure, I really have no pros.

Cons

I'm pretty sure I was "quietly laid off", in the effort of sneaky downsizing without having to actually do formal layoffs. This place was a godsend and a great place to work on my small independent team, and I did great. Then they did massive restructuring, added layers of hierarchy, added process, and basically just starting running a creative team like a line of factory workers. I had a horrible time with my manager on so many different levels, and felt validation when others would reflect the same, but I reflect what everyone else says - narcissistic, micro managing leadership that I now understand play manipulation games. I was put on a performance improvement plan and finally quit due to burnout, stress, and the dissolution of a role and a team that I had from before. They constantly push for solutions and deliverables, but I never really saw anything I delivered actually get treated and implemented with respect. Company policies and siloed team policies and procedures stymie actual effectiveness, and it seems like the leadership acts as your strict grade school teacher rather than having your back.
