Pros

You get paid every two weeks. I had to work weekends every other week, and you get to work with children.

Cons

No flexibility with schedule, no advancing within career and it's very political.

Pros

It's government, we're going to have good benefits. County reserves are strong. Personnel offers good management training opportunities.

Cons

IT department serves the entire county so major operational issues of immediate library resolutions takes weeks, often months to fix. Majority of internal staff development day activities are not national industry conversation topics to engage staff. Library training to update library skills is virtually non-existence. You're on your own with no money for paraprofessionals or librarians to attend local conferences. Public serving employees are stretched due to lack of hiring for 2-3 year old unfilled vacancies PRE-COVID. Library has no recognizable marketing brand for the city as big we are. Our Library Foundation has constant administrative turnover; Foundation rarely supports library programs in a robust manner. County Management team seemingly decides what resources are needed for the Library rather than library leadership conveying what is needed.
