Pros
ARCADIS is a great large company in the environmental consulting industry. If you have a supportive supervisor and manager, there are almost limitless opportunities for junior staff to gain a variety of field experiences. I've had many opportunities to travel across the country to different sites and other colleagues have had international opportunities as well (rare in the environmental industry). As far as the industry goes, only a few other companies would be a better place to end up than ARCADIS and only with tradeoffs.
Cons
We are underpaid for what we do, but that is the industry norm. You will make more money if you work in another industry. If you want to get rich, become an exploration geologist or petroleum engineer and move to Houston. You will make 3 times as much money becoming an employee for ARCADIS's clients in the oil & gas industry or mining industry. We do not increase client profits, we can only reduce their environmental liabilities. Different clients have different strategies for managing their liabilities. If you work for a client that isn't interested in technical (and more expensive) outcomes to their liabilities, you will not get to do the exciting work. Depending on the client team, you will be pressured to perform impossible feats (i.e. producing a 40 hour product in 8 hours of billable work). As an employee at ARCADIS, you need to act as if you are an independent contractor and market yourself to the better client teams within the company.
