Pros

- Generous vacation time allotment - Above average health benefits - Decent work/life balance in some positions (claims is not one of them)

Cons

Amica used to be a wonderful place to work. That no longer is the case. Without fail in the claims department, employees are miserable. Everyone who is eligible to retire is doing so, and every week more employees are quitting. The workload has become unmanageable and the pay is simply not worth the stress. There is no room for any diversity of thought in upper management beyond the branch level. The company is run strictly on a top down basis with no wiggle room from what is dictated from above. No matter what message is sent up the chain, if it doesn't match what upper management thinks, it will be shot down. A good example of this is work from home which is currently at one day a week because upper management believes employees need to be in the office to sustain our "culture". Meanwhile, the vast majority of employees would prefer multiple days at home to line up with what competitors are doing. Numerous talented employees have been lost because Amica refuses to make any concessions in order to keep them. They refuse to accept any blame for the toxic work culture and below average pay for the reason why so many employees are quitting or retiring, and instead blame the issue on "the great resignation". The reasonable workload and enjoyable workplace culture used to be two of the main reasons to love working here. Previously, everyone was only too happy to help each other out with tasks that may have been outside of their job duties. Now, everyone is beyond busy with their own tasks and there is very little camaraderie, even within the same department. Another huge issue is that without fail, every single decision takes immensely longer than it needs to be. Take a look at the other reviews and you'll see the same issue noted, particularly in regards to replacing a lost employee. A decision that should be straight forward instead takes approval from multiple levels and it's months before an employee is hired, and several months to a year beyond that before they are full trained. In the meantime, the rest of the department has taken on their work with no increased pay for the work.

Pros

Nearly all remote work for most (some are 100% remote). Some still hybrid if you are unfortunate to live close to a branch. They try to keep work life balance there for you. Most management (some do not) actually care for you personally. For the industry, caseloads are manageable (still tough job).

Cons

They are slowly becoming more and more controlling in how you work. The new phone system that is coming in (Genesis) is "big brother" listening in and monitoring your day-to-day activities to make sure you are in fact working. NOT A GOOD FEELING! It started with front line staff and now they seem to be rolling it out to their tenured adjuster staff. They should let the fact that we are settling claims show for itself. They say it is "training." I say it is intrusive and fosters a feeling of mistrust. Can't wait to retire! I love what I do, but don't like the trend I am seeing and feeling.
