Pros

Great work force from L2-L5 IC's and front line managers.

Cons

AWS invests in infrastructure, not employees. Their safety protocols are shockingly behind industrial standards. They have grown too fast without support the basics and fundamentals. Their training program is an awful concoction of tribal knowledge and outdated wiki pages. If you get permission to do anything, you better get it in writing because management would rather sacrifice you instead of having your back. This environment is ripe to create a situation that will kill someone, literally. Especially considering the severe lack of understanding and guidance that is facilitated and allowed to prosper. Their performance measure system constantly pits people against each other or against standards that are rarely defined beyond vague generalities.

Pros

Ambitious projects if you're in the right team. Typically great team-mates. Don't believe the memes, the ppl are not back stabbing jerks but are overall genuinely nice. Not constrained by budgets when building cool things. Tools while sometimes clunky are powerful.

Cons

Schizophrenic lack of focus, entire teams get split, merged and upended multiple times a quarter. Some product managers are disconnected from reality. It didn't use to be the case, the PM-Ts were previously top notch. You're pushed to vibe code everything. Established products with loyal customers are getting neglected. Newer VP level leaders don't seem to know what they are doing. Veteran OG VP level leaders are either leaving in droves or seem stressed or checked out.
