Great place for former founders - Senior Business Development Manager Amazon Web Services Employee Review

Pros

We call this founder rehab. I get to advise startups all day and work in a motivating environment. It's great to use the experience I've had building a startup to hep other up and coming startups. Great support from my manager and team members alike to learn it all. AWS provides so many resources for expanding my skills and continue to grow and encourages me to do so inside of my job, not as an extra.

Cons

Not really a con but it is such a large organization that it is easy to feel overwhelmed at the amount of information there is to learn in order to be able to navigate it. Assume it will take upwards of 6 months to get comfortable in the role. While AWS is putting in a lot of resources towards Inclusion and Diversity initiatives, what the management layer and above looks like is still very homogeneous and doesn't appear to be changing much. Would love to see more initiative around ensure we are reaching diverse candidates for jobs and empowering underrepresented team members with tools to be able to have the same opportunities as others.

Pros

Ambitious projects if you're in the right team. Typically great team-mates. Don't believe the memes, the ppl are not back stabbing jerks but are overall genuinely nice. Not constrained by budgets when building cool things. Tools while sometimes clunky are powerful.

Cons

Schizophrenic lack of focus, entire teams get split, merged and upended multiple times a quarter. Some product managers are disconnected from reality. It didn't use to be the case, the PM-Ts were previously top notch. You're pushed to vibe code everything. Established products with loyal customers are getting neglected. Newer VP level leaders don't seem to know what they are doing. Veteran OG VP level leaders are either leaving in droves or seem stressed or checked out.
