Pros
The other employees you work with are great, however they too are walking on eggshells.
Cons
- Management changes their mind & direction constantly - dynamic thinking is great, but not able to make a decision and stick with it is terrible - Getting a 'yes' or 'no' answer is virtually impossible. You will get a broad answer, this way when something goes wrong, you can be blamed a lot easier. - Most employees fear management & their irrationality - No meetings between the teams & management. No one has any idea where the company is heading, what's working, what's not, ect. - Company has been working on an operating system to compete with windows on mobile devices for 10 years. They support this project by outsourcing their in-house talent. - Company has had to move due to dispute with previous landlord & is dispute with current landlord - Management seems to have a lot of 'enemies' in their previous contacts - No respect for clients, no trust in (ANY) employee with the company for less than 5years - 10hr working says are the norm/minimal. Don't be surprised if you work in Windsor for 8 or 9 hours, then are asked to be in Kingston at 8pm for an unspecified amount of time. - Poor pay, 50-60hr work weeks, on call 24/7 with no compensation - They advertise benefits, however you must pay into them ($100+ per pay cheque). Most employees don't pay into them as it's too much of a hit to the already low pay. - All company products & expenses are paid for by staff & reimbursed ~3 weeks later. Whether it be groceries for lunch, or hardware for IT. - No hierarchy. Regardless of who hires you, or who you think you report to (or manage), you will always be in the wrong. Management is rarely in office, maximum of 2-3 days per week for no more than 4-6 hours. The list could go on. All of this is evident by the above average turnover rate. It should have been a red-flag when during the hiring process management mentioned 'fortunately in our time we haven't had to fire anyone yet, nor have we had many people leave'. Didn't take long to realize the turnover was averaging 10-15 people per year. (>50%)
