Pros
I get paid, I get to work from home, and I get halfway decent benefits.
Cons
The attrition rate for my job position has been obscenely high for the entirety of the 5 years I’ve held it. Management claims that they are doing everything they can to fix it but the situation never gets any better. I’m not sure whether the issue is a lack of resources, which would be hard to imagine as we are a multi-billion dollar enterprise with a healthy profit margin, lack of proper planning, or simply a lack of imagination, but regardless of the root cause leadership doesn’t appear to be properly equipped to fix it. The high attrition rate means that our work/life balance is heavily weighted towards the work end of the spectrum. When people leave and their clients need to be reassigned to analysts who are already beyond capacity the policy is “Don’t ask them to take on another client, make them”. But worry not, if their constant stream of thank you emails and self-help blogs aren’t incentive enough to work yourself until all of the joy is gone from your life the company does offer about a half dozen mental health resources to help you cope with the undue stress.
