Pros

Haven't you seen...FREE FRUIT AND POP! Also there were many great people I met at my time there, 90% of them are gone and the work/life balance is good but see below....

Cons

Before I get into the cons for Ability, the biggest criticism I hear about sites that allow employees to review a company is "well only disgruntled employees take the time to write a review." This is true, someone who is disgruntled is more likely to take the time to write a poor review than someone who is happy. What I say to that is look at the reviews for other companies in the Minneapolis area and compare it to Ability and decide for yourself. If you are in sales or marketing at this company, you are probably quite content. You are treated well and are shielded from a lot of the problems that occur on a daily basis. Coming from the support/implementations side the company is a complete mess. To begin with the salary you are paid is way below the market value. This is one of the contributing factors to why there is such a high turnover in the Implementation/support department. Also the upper management at this company is completely oblivious/don't care what is going on. Essentially all they worry about is making the sale and put no effort into supporting the product or making sure their customers utilize the product to its full potential. The competent VP's or directors who try to change something or bring up an issue are forced out. The executive VP's at the company do not want to hear any problems or issues that occur on a daily basis, they only want those who do the bare minimum and don't question anything. As bizarre as it sounds, if you are a hard working component employee who wants to improve on the issues Ability has you will go no where in this company. If you do the bare minimum and follow the status quo you will be the one who is promoted. I have seen countless hard working smart employees who have left Ability for better jobs that pay better and who appreciate their work and innovative ideas. The last con I will state is that some of the products they sell are broke. Management does not want to hear something does not work and puts no effort forth to fix those products. It instead is focused on acquiring new companies and products that no one has any idea on how to support.

Pros

Beautiful environment to work in. Great downtown location on the bus lines. Free soda, coffee, and fruit. Casual dress. All of the people in the company are awesome - smart but very friendly and helpful. I worked for ABILITY for 3.5 years, specifically in the Marketing Department. The employees in the Marketing department are amazing - incredibly smart, forward thinking, helpful and fun. I felt that we all cared about each other and had each other's backs. The VP of Marketing, John Porricolo (who I reported to the majority of my career there) was honestly the best boss I ever had. He encouraged me to grow as an employee and as an individual, and he believed in my talents and abilities. When I doubted myself he would encourage me - this allowed me to learn many new things and see what I was capable of. I learned SO much in my time at ABILITY - skills and knowledge that I am now applying at my new job.

Cons

ABILITY is a company going through a huge growth phase. They are in that "awkward" stage of going from a small company to a large one, so they are in the process of putting procedures and workflows solidly into place. Things move quickly, and can sometimes feel hectic, chaotic, or disorganized, but it's also really exhilarating and fun. You are never bored and there is rarely a dull moment! I believe the growth will also allow for opportunities to grow/move up in the company in the future.
