Pros
You'll get to see different parts of the country, and get a van.
Cons
Here is a list of things that happened to me during my employment:
Not keep up to date with current legal requirements of pay, and so underpay employees for holiday pay. When shown the laws, and asked to be paid fairly, get told I was wrong, and then subsequently ignored.
Repeatedly having shifts booked with inadequate rest time between (eg finish the day at 10pm, have to leave for work the next day at 5am)
Have work booked in on a weekend without being asked, and then complained at me for saying I couldn't do it.
Expecting ridiculous working hours, for example being expected to be able to drive from Newcastle to the Isle of Skye (8 hours without breaks) after an 8 hour shift ended at 5pm, ready to work at 8am.
Being completely unwilling to spend a small amount on P&P to deliver things to your home, and instead make you drive a 3 hour round trip to collect parts in your free time
Expecting you to spend weeks at a time staying in hotels for work, and despite the fact it says in the contract they wont do this, respond with "that bit of the contract isn't for you"
Book in jobs without getting a permit, and then moan that you didn't sort it out by calling the office at 10pm, when it was closed.
Wants the company to be the best provider in the country, but then have a pay freeze, When mentioning that we're not making enough money, say "well these other companies that we all know provide a terrible service don't offer more, so why would we?"
When you mention any of the above respond by saying "well when I had a job like this I went all over the place too" and then not do a single thing at all about the issues.
