Pros
The benefits and pension are good. Most of the people are nice and caring to work with.
Cons
Unfortunately the organization went through a major conversion with its website and other customer-facing systems, which wasn’t managed properly. This resulted in many employees, including myself, having to work around the clock, with little to no breaks and without the ability to truly take any time off. In addition to the larger project being mismanaged, it tore the culture of the organization to its core and it has yet to recover. My department had very capable staff but was led by a micromanager who didn’t trust anyone to do their work and whose own shortcomings resulted in more work for the overall team. Although many are aware of this specific manager and have left the department over the years the leadership has failed to take corrective action and instead allows good employees to turn over. Finally as a whole this organization is full of nepotism. From the very top down; different rules apply to those in the inner circles (direct reporting structures with couples, or managing friends spouse/child etc.). The preferred employee is compliant, and pretends not to notice injustices.
