Growing pains of a small company, but rewards of getting in on the ground floor - Project Manager AMEC Consulting Employee Review

Pros

The people, flexibility, transparency, and the opportunities. This is a small family run business, but we aim to invest in people and get as many 'lifers' on board as we can. I know some people have complained about the past hectic management / lack of administration / feeling underpaid, and I get it, but we are a small company functioning in an industry dominated by big corporations; there are always trade offs working at a small business. And couple that with serious growth in the last 1.5 years, there have been some growing pains, but I wish people would see the glass half full and try and work to improve things, have conversations, and help out, rather than staying silent, whining, leaving, or writing bad reviews..

Cons

Small business growing pains. We don't have to deal with all the corporate bureaucracy, but we also don't get the corporate perks. Small business is a battle, we need people who are willing to believe in the company and help build this business for everyone in it.

Pros

The projects are exciting and interesting, the coworkers are usually good humored.

Cons

The pay is not equal to the work load. Employees who have more responsibility and higher education get paid the same as employees who don't have any background in the industry and minimal workload. The company treats the employees like they are both "salary" and "hourly", causing the employees to get shafted from both sides. It's a start-up company so there are a lot of kinks that need to be worked out and the turn over rate of employees has been incredibly high. The issues in the company occur at the expense of the employee, resulting in the high turn over rate. The project coordinators are hit or miss and both of them are inexperienced in the field that they are supposed to be leading in.
