Pros

Main office is in a large campus in central downtown Louisville right next to the Belvedere. The overall hotel staff is full of wonderful people.

Cons

I only have experience with the IT department. You will work in the only unrenovated finished area of the building. The office will off and on smell like sewer gas and nothing will be done about it no matter how many complaints. You will be told you are to be hired for your security skills but any and all advice on security you give will be ignored and/or swept under the rug. All of your successes are actually the directors successes, but every failure is your failure. If you set standards and are given the go ahead by management to implement them, they will ignore them whenever it is convenient. Advice from even the entire department on why an idea is bad will be ignored and instead the bad idea will be forcefully implemented anyway. You will be yelled at regularly regardless of who is at fault. You will watch vendors fall away like flies as they are either all fired due to alleged incompetence by the company or the vendor fires the company due to management that’s too hard to work with. If you report anything at all that’s a violation of company policy you will be retaliated against by management and HR won’t act on your reports. No solution can be implemented without the director understanding how it works. You may be assumed to be breaking the rules or making unauthorized changes when the director forgets he told you to do something a certain way that he specifically asked for. The management of the department comes down to delegating tasks from an spreadsheet to an individual who doesn’t have a technical backup, and the director stepping in to to tech work whenever he feels like it. While at the same time every part of you work is micromanaged to the point where you are essential unable to make decisions for yourself without repercussion.

Pros

Good benefits Free meal everyday from the cafeteria

Cons

HR is basically useless. Sexual harassment claims get swept under the rug, if the harasser is liked by the higher ups. The employee areas are horribly maintained. A lot of leaks, mold, and just disgusting smells in general. I don't think it's appropriate to advertise a payday loan company during orientation. If your employees are having to resort to that, then you need to ask yourself if you are paying high enough wages. Inner department fights are common. Someone gets promoted over others, and suddenly everyone is a backstabber. Once again, HR is pretty useless, so don't expect help when your department starts feeling like a warzone every day. All of these issues results in the good employees leaving to better opportunities, while the bad ones continue to wallow in the mud. If you absolutely have to take a job here (or any of the hotels they service), keep your head down, pretend you like the job, and keep looking in your off time.
