EMC Cons outweigh the Pros

Pros

Benefits, PTO, Bonuses,401k and Pension Plan. Ample PTO time is given, we are able to wear jeans on Fridays, the company matches our contribution to 401k up to 4% and we receive merit increases, holiday bonuses and a pay out if the company does well financially.

Cons

Department politics outweigh logical and qualified advancements in careers. Overqualified personnel are hired for jobs beneath their education level and they burn out. HR takes preferential treatment to managers and behaves unprofessionally with workplace conflicts. There is no help for the unhappy and unfairly treated unless an issue is so glaringly obvious that they are forced to act.

Pros

-Low-cost health insurance (medical, dental, vision) + FSA and EAP -On-site wellness center and fitness programs -401(k) - company match 50% of contributions up to 6% -Company-funded pension plan and life insurance -Stock options -Free garage/lot parking -Somewhat competitive salaries -IT VP's are approachable and value input

Cons

-Technology and software are not current -Most programming positions use antiquated, non-OOP language, MAPPER -In-house training is poor (inconsistent, sink-or-swim mentality, no continuous training) -Individual reviews focus more on team errors/interaction than on individual accomplishments -Little to no advancement opportunities -Company advertises work-life balance, but many programmers have weekly required overtime -Company advertises work-from-home 1 day/week option, but you must be exempt and *exceed* your expectations for 3 consecutive annual reviews to be considered eligible- which does not guarantee that your individual department will allow you to do so -Comp time is not offered for exempt employees -PTO takes a long time to build -Executive VP for Corp. Development doesn't even pretend to care about employees
