Pros

They hire essentially anyone! They don’t really fire anyone (unless for blatant reasons)

Cons

This was the worst summer camp I’ve ever worked for. They throw health and safety to the wind. There were major red flags when it comes to camper’s physical safety and emotional safety, so if you’re okay with turning a blind eye in the name of obedience then work here. Children had improperly sized equipment because there isn’t enough to go around, which was my biggest issue. The owners are not good at open dialogue, giving constructive feedback, or listening to other points of view. There were multiple moments when a team member was publicly embarrassed by owners or leaders at all staff meetings. It was uncomfortable to witness. The staff has a big clique problem. Returning staff hazes new staff members & new staff members rarely return if they did not attend as children. Overall I’d say this camp has the lowest morale I’ve ever witnessed at a camp. On the surface morale seems great, but when you engage with other staff members most people don’t enjoy working there.

I have nightmares

Pros

Some of the other counselors were good, the kids could be fun, there are a lot of facilities, and they provide your uniform

Cons

I have actual nightmares of this place & the owners of the camp. Camp Highlander was the worst job I ever worked because of the stress they put on counselors. Melissa is not very good with constructive criticism (taking it or giving it). She attacks people’s character & personality rather than their work. Interpersonal issues at this camp are not dealt with confidentiality. The leadership staff always told other lower level counselors & cits about drama and confidential information that they knew about. There were never enough pieces of safety equipment, which puts the children at risk. When these problems were reported, they were ignored. When it came to time off, showing back up to camp on time was not enough. I remember getting yelled at & publicly shamed for being ONLY 10 minutes early. When people ask me if this is a camp I would recommend for their kids, I say no because of the danger that this camp puts kids in.
