Pros

CIPPlanner has a good product, flexible for most customers.

Cons

No HR Departement. Two persons in charge of the company (husband and wife). Unclear of the position and job duties of each employee. Very bad travel expenses management (you may never get reimbursed for your travel expenses even when approved by the CEO himself). No IT department in case your computer faces a technical issue, in that case you should wait until the tech people in China wake up and work it out with them in your own personal time (and this generally take hours). Very limited workspace, no kitchen, no coffee. The CEO is very implicated in the projects with the clients, giving a little room for the rest of the team to work efficiently. He is in most project the PM himself. No product training or resources tools in the beginning. Outdated files available on a shared repository, forcing you to do a double job. The work/life balance is very hard to maintain since you would have to work nighttime with China team and most of weekends.

Pros

The product is very interesting, complex and flexible. and working with the customers is challenging and rewarding This is a dynamic business environment, with constant changes - from work priorities to complete reversals in project decisions. Interruptions are frequent.

Cons

The benefits are sub-par, in comparison with standards offered anywhere else. Get your offer in writing, and review it carefully. The "complete benefit package" will have several items missing that you are likely expecting. This is a privately held company, husband and wife team. They also own the development company in China, which is much larger than the US company. Do not expect policies and procedures that are standard in other companies - for example in the areas of HR or expense reimbursement. Company has an interesting mix of employees - seems that they've either been there over 10 years, or under 1 year. The turnover rate in San Ramon is high. The CEO is very involved in detailed design decisions with project implementations and product development. There is no visibility to growth strategy for the company.
