Pros

Some fab people to work with. The CEO is brilliant and has really made the institute popular and relevant.

Cons

It its a really good place to work but ironically the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development doesn't always practice what it preaches. My experience with the HR department hasn't always been positive.

Thank you for taking the time to review the CIPD. We have many great people working with us (including our CEO!) who are making some exciting things happen for the people profession and our members. I am sorry to learn that your experience with the HR department hasn't always positive. We care a lot about creating a great employee experience and providing engaging and meaningful careers with us, which includes an evolving development programme for our people managers. If there is anything in particular that it would be helpful for us to be aware of please do get in touch with me.

Pros

Some truly amazing talented people within the organisation. Great flexible working practices Solid total reward package Amazing offices and work environment A purpose that contributes to a positive impact Good opportunities to increase your breadth and depth of the people profession through content and connections People Managers want to enable people to develop

Cons

Gosh, where do you start? I've never witnessed a company fall off a cliff in such a short space of time in such a dramatic fashion. A succession of poor business decisions and investments in the wrong areas for the wrong reasons has lead them to their financial position, which has meant unfortunately a large volume of people will lose their jobs. The culture has changed from one where voice could be shared and heard to a toxic place where it will only be listened to if it fits with SLT narrative, god forbid if you try to challenge mindset or share insights. It is ironic CIPD are the institute for the people profession as they have neglected good redundancy practice, littered with a series of errors for what is a very emotionally sensitive process creating a great level of anxiety and stress. A lack of clear and consistent comms and too much corporate jargon used to clarify valid questions. Imposing change based on personal opinions rather than using the insights of those with experience. A total lack of accountability or empathy from the SLT.
