Pros

Best thing I ever did in my career is leave this place. Don't be fooled by the reviews here they are written by the hr group. This place is a nut house with no accountability no direction and no sense of how to do science or robust product development. Before you think I am disgruntled I worked there for more than ten years before I just couldn't take it anymore. I tried to fit in but the culture of non accountability and lack of direction finally go me to leave.

Cons

Lost in nonsensical business decisions where the company is managed according to whatever the latest book the owner read. Pay is way below market and they are proud of that. It shows how much people really want to work for them. I fell for it. I received a 32% pay raise the day I left.

Pros

There is excellent work/life balance.

Cons

This company runs by the seat of its pants. There is no communication and no accountability. If you don't have a PhD, don't expect to get treated with respect. This company has a very elitist type attitude towards people with PhDs. If you don't have your PhD, you're just a 'pair of hands.' The salaries listed here are for people with their PhD. Don't be fooled into thinking that Brewer Science is competitive with other companies in terms of salary-it's at least 20-25% below average in terms of pay. The attitude around Brewer Science seems to be very disgruntled.

Pros

The company has a modern attitude when it comes to the employees - a fitness center was recently built, and the yoga and "Biggest Loser" programs reenforce the company's position: that it cares about its employees. Many of the managers here have had a recently short (<5 years) employment, prior to promotion, and most employees move up the ladder fairly quickly. Those who want to work in a global company without having to live in a large city will thrive in this atmosphere.

Cons

The departments have poor communication - when a problem comes back from a customer, there is a lot of infighting and finger-pointing as to who is to blame. Promotions tend to happen more often to those who become friends with their boss, and quick promotion also means that there are a lot of managers with little to no experience actually managing an employee. This can be frustrating to new employees, looking for a mentor. The female-to-male ratio is very poor in the chemistry and engineering departments - in a team of twenty chemists and chemical engineers, it is not uncommon to find only one or two females.
