I have been working at BioMarin Pharmaceutical full-time for more than a year

    Pros

Great pay and flexible working options such as working from home. Top line management who listen to their employees and make them feel valued through appropriate feedback mechanisms and reward /recognition systems. An exciting environment to work in and an opportunity to work cross functionally and learn from others. Fantastic learning opportunities and continued professional development. If you are technically experienced, flexible, hard working and willing to lead and influence through meaningful cross functional relationships, this is the company for you to make a big impact!

    Cons

None that I can think of really. There can be resistance from stakeholders at times which can be exhausting but in order to see change, you need to be patient, stay positive and trust that top line management will carry things forward in order to make sound business decisions balanced with risk.

    Advice to Management

Surround yourself with technically sound people in order to be able to make appropriate business and /quality decisions. Continue to encourage positive cross functional relationships and lead by example by influencing change!

I have been working at BioMarin Pharmaceutical full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

Good pay and benefits. Management is not bad. There is certainly work to do, but the atmosphere is still relaxed and you are left to get on with your work with a great deal of freedom and flexibility. This is what I appreciate most, and I think it pays off for BioMarin too because people are happier when not being hounded with people looking over your shoulder. The people working here are also very nice for the most part.I have worked in a lot of places in my life and overall I have been happiest here and have stayed longer than any job. There aren't so many 121's anymore which is great. Most people don't like them, and those that do will find time to talk with their managers anyway. Thankfully they don't have that poisonous system of "incidents" when you're sick, which means you don't lose your job if you are unlucky with health at some stage.

    Cons

Don't get paid for shift handovers which I annoying as you come in early for them. Holidays could be increased a bit more for shift workers, although they have gone up slightly for 4 shift. Permanent jobs are given based on interviews which is not nice. If one of the managers takes a disliking to you for any reason then you can kiss the job goodbye. It's happened to a couple of people. Bonus is tied to projects you are involved in, even if you don't really have time to do any. Find a different way to measure performance for shift workers. Work life balance for non shift workers is not good. People feel bad for leaving on time. Managers stay all hours sometimes which doesn't set a good example.

    Advice to Management

Support people a bit more with projects if they are necessary. Give people guidance on what to do and what not to do. Don't let the culture become the same as every other company.

I have been working at BioMarin Pharmaceutical full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

*good people *culture and work ethics are great *everything is science based *a lot of investment in new technologies *very nice environment (offices etc *a fair amount of investment in hiring people

    Cons

*Fast paced environment *Due to fast paced environment some things/processes are not optimally planned (probably happens often in the industry) *hard work is required (can be also seen as positive sometimes)

    Advice to Management

Set clear long term objectives business-wide and adhere to manufacturing schedule (although understandable that it is hard in such a fast paced environment)
