Pros

They do not expect you to work weekends and they expect you to take an hour lunch every day. There is a strong work/home balance at the office. It is a small office, so you will get experience in multiple divisions and woking on multiple projects at once. The pay was competitive.

Cons

Small office. The office is really two windowless rooms and one of the rooms is very cramped. It is cramped, to the point of being distracting. Tripping over computer cords, desk furniture, and boxes is a normally occurrence. Also, you can easily become distracted by people moving around you and people talking on the phones. Additionally, work roles are not well defined, so you will be pulled onto projects and tasks which might be inappropriate given your experience and/or title. Lastly, there is no room to progress past your hired role.

Pros

I work 3 days a week teaching English mostly to kids which gives me flexibility to work on translations at home, my other job. Initial salary was 2100 JPY per hour, which includes prep time. After 1 year the pay was raised to 2300 JPY. I have great experience of working with HR people, was able to take a month off to go back to my country for holidays (non-paid holidays). Easy to take a day off if yourself or your kid gets sick.

Cons

Working on Saturdays (mostly 6-7 lessons, that’s the bread winner) and sometimes on Sundays, i.e. for Halloween event. For hour teachers there is no social package nor health care.

Pros

All materials are prepared. Some Japanese staff are friendly and supportive during the lesson/class

Cons

Not enough prep time, even for teacher's "toilet time/peeing". Some branch managers are racist and rude.
