Great people but out dated management

Pros

The team are great, very social and lots of very funny people. The office and the holidays days are also amazing.

Cons

Micromanagement is ingrained in the culture, mistakes are never overlooked (at any level) and can be a real mark against you as you try to grow. There is constant process changes so you have to regularly adapt to new ways of doing the same thing. You have to be a certain type of person to thrive and progress. It can take a very long time to get promoted. It can feel personal. Management don't listen to employees. It is very old fashioned, especially the idea of having to work in the office and the limitations on working remotely (again, can be based on personal bias). People leave a lot so there is a general feeling of unease.

Thank you for taking the time to review us on GD. Although we are pleased to hear you enjoyed the people, the socials and the holiday allowance, we are sorry to hear you feel the constant process changes, lack of listening to team members and our WFH policy is, in your opinion outdated. We do listen to our people and value and welcome suggestions. I'm sorry this isn't the experience you've received. We do have brilliant and talented people here, and we aim to keep them here by giving people autonomy and freedom to grow and learn. Mistakes are made at every level, and we would never hold any personal grudge. But we do try and learn from them, hence why we try to refine our processes. You feedback is invaluable as we strive to do better and be better. We are sorry your time here with us wasn't what you wanted, but we are thankful for your time here and wish you every success in your future.

Solid low to mid-range company to work for

Pros

There is a lot of fun in the office and options to play games with colleagues if your schedule allows. Pretty steady/repetitive job role so if you know your stuff the work is manageable. Managing staff members are also willing to give you a break, so long as you know them well, when life stuff comes up. Plenty of socials if you're up for them - though all self organised and out your own pay packet. Really nice if you are a kid out of college not used to working in a business or want to learn about paid media/digital marketing. Very much a team environment with plenty of contact and communication between departments.

Cons

Low pay, no bonuses or benefits to speak of... they are also anti-remote work for the most part. Work culture is not for the squamish! Lots of swearing and noise/banter in the office, a fair bit of teasing too that is not exactly professional. Top brass like to flex their muscle with job threats and showing their wealth, bragging about holidays etc. Very cringe. Culture is alcohol fueled. Higher level staff are not really leaders in their fields either, so training is difficult. No budget for external training (or anything else really) as they like to pinch pennies everywhere. Kind of tinpot/ramshackle process-wise.

Thank you for taking the time to review us on GD and for your feedback. We aim to always improve so feedback is welcomed. We are very surprised to hear that you feel that all socials are self funded. We have a summer and Christmas party (all paid for by the company) along with regular in-house social events. The Social Committee here may well organise extra activities outside of work, if they do, they do pay for this themselves. We are not anti WFH, most departments allow a hybrid model once a probation period has been passed. If a person with zero experience in digital marketing applies for a junior/entry level role here, then that person will have little knowledge. Therefore one on one training is required, which we deliver in-house. Budget for training is always available. To be called penny-pinching and tinpot isn’t just unfair, it’s factually untrue. We will always pay a wage that benefits the employees’ level of skill and attitude. In fact, we are self-voluntary members of https://www.livingwagebrighton.co.uk/, which would suggest we more than care about our people and salaries. The activities we are lucky enough to have in our office, such as the pool table, ping pong table, board games and darts board, allow everyone here to enjoy the office. Whilst partaking, they are welcome to enjoy the weekly fruit drop and huge range of coffees and teas. We do realise that not everyone likes to drink, and we cater to everyone. We wish you well in your digital marketing career.

Pros

Lots of socials Nice team of juniors and seniors Good way into digital marketing Some very talented individuals - if you can find a way, or the time to get some training out of them you’ll learn a lot.

Cons

Micro Managed. Lack of training. No support of personal development. No flexible working, unless you’re part of the originals. No HR or Head of People. Mainly minimum fee clients. Minimal cross departmental collaboration.

Thank you for taking the time to review us on GD and for your feedback. We aim to always improve so feedback is welcomed. I think it’s important to clarify to those reading this feedback, that the people who have been happily working here for over 6 years, still abide by the same flexible working options as all team members do (once probation has been passed). Cross collaboration is and always will be a huge focus for us. We have bridged this gap in recent months, but it’s something that we will continue to work hard on. This feedback is helpful, so thank you. Trusting our team and giving our Managers autonomy to do what is best by our clients, has contributed to our growth. We hope your time at Bamboo Nine wasn’t a waste and at the very least you found it a good way to get into digital marketing.
