Pros

Cool product. Wish I could have worked on it.

Cons

Interviews went well despite both co-founders wanting to interview at 8 and 9 PM, respectively. Very cool product. Was informed on my second day that the job was part-time (20 hours per week), which was never discussed or even implied in the interviews. When I confronted the founder about this bait and switch, she immediately cut off my access and then told me I would only be paid for one day because the hours from my first day weren’t properly logged in their system. I had such high hopes for this company. If you do go work for them, get every detail IN WRITING.

This employee worked for the company for - as documented - 8hrs. Total. They, in writing, acknowledged the role as a part-time position. When that was reiterated, they quit. Within 30mins, we processed their final paycheck and wished them the best. However, at that point, this individual started harassing and extorting the company, claiming that if he wasn't paid for extra hours that he chose not to log on his timesheets, he would 'sue us' and 'turn us into the labor board' and 'write terrible reviews' online (see above) He was mad, apparently, that our CEO had processed his resignation so quickly, even though said resignation was sent around 7PM PST, and was stated to be 'effectively immediately.' CA state law says that employes must process all final paychecks the day the employee departs the company, so that is what the company did. As for the additional hours this employee claims to have worked, we have informed him we are happy to pay any additional hours worked so long as he can provide a timesheet and record of them; he has declined to provide this to us. I would ask anyone reading this to keep 2 things in mind: 1) the employee worked at the company for 8hrs total, 2) this review was threatened to us as a retaliatory measure for not paying the employee money he claims to be owed, but that we as of now, have no record of him working, and for records that he himself has been asked to provide, yet has never provided. Thank you!

Pros

The product you will be working on is very neat and since the company is smaller, developers have a very direct impact on features added to the product. During my employment here I learned a ton and I felt like I became close to everyone on the team. Jad and Suzie (The owners) are great. They are super receptive to feedback and care about getting employees to where they want to go if possible. It was great having bosses that I felt worked as hard (if not harder) than their employees. They are also just interesting people to talk to (Ask Jad about his tattoo). There is also opportunity for travel for those that want to. The insurance / benefits are good. Great upward mobility here, since it is a smaller company with good prospects it is a chance to get in on the ground floor of something bigger. Why did I leave if I have so much good to say about this place? I guess I just listened to The World at Large one too many times and decided it was time for something new.

Cons

Sometimes when deliverables are coming up the team has to put in extra hours , but that usually comes with less work for a bit after the deliverable so it's not an endless crunch or anything.

Pros

Opportunity. There's so much opportunity for growth in your career here at BadVR. With this company being a tech start-up, one that's already gained so much attention with their technology, I feel privileged to have been one of the first few groups of employees since being hired a year ago. Yes, the environment is fast at times, but this is again, a tech start-up, and the pace is no different anywhere else that's doing what we do. Freedom. I am so thankful for the ability to work remotely, anywhere I want to for that matter. I appreciate being able to delegate my own hours and get my work completed around what works best for my personal life. Communication. I've always felt that I've been able to effectively communicate with all management and both founders here at this company which is not always as easy with other companies. Being in a higher-level role myself, it's important that I have the ability to reach our decisions makers at all times of the day, which I always can. Passion. There's a lot of passion here and a lot of talent. It's my type of vibe and the type of environment that I succeed in. I appreciate the structure, it makes me excited to work towards the bigger rewards I know this type of passionate environment delivers - and for that, I don't feel like I'm just working towards building someone else's dream.

Cons

Although I love being remote, working in the same office can sometimes make it easier to communicate with the team.
