A place people stay - not necessarily grow
Pros
Strong brand and market leader in its industry. The workforce is full of genuinely talented, hardworking people who are supportive and enjoyable to work with. Good team culture and long-standing employee loyalty - which is impressive considering how little incentive there sometimes is to stay.
Cons
Career progression and compensation can feel extremely limited compared to the level of commitment employees put in. Many capable people spend decades in the business with minimal movement in role, responsibility, or pay, which certainly helps maintain consistency if nothing else. The company can feel insular, with employees kept in a narrow internal bubble rather than being developed toward broader opportunities. The same level of effort and performance invested elsewhere will lead to significantly faster progression & higher compensation. Promotions can feel less like milestones and more like rare celestial events that long-serving employees speak about in theory.
