I worked at Associated Engineering full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

Short commute (your results may vary)

    Cons

Under-staffed & over-worked, for the electrical department at least. Management will not hire enough experienced engineers, so they just work the ones they have to death (because you're salaried, so that's cheap yeah?) And don't expect to be allowed out of the office, its office bound paperwork only I'm afraid.

    Advice to Management

Look after the people that actually do the work.

I have been working at Associated Engineering full-time for more than a year

    Pros

Great people, sometimes interesting projects. It's a good culture which means that I never dread going to work. For the most part, the work-life balance is pretty good.

    Cons

Like any engineering consulting firm, there are times you have to work crazy hours, but for me that has been relatively rare. The company is risk-averse as well, which means very little innovation, but you do learn a lot about how things are done in the real world.

    Advice to Management

Keep treating employees well. Maybe take a risk every now and again and try to break into a new market.

I worked at Associated Engineering full-time

    Pros

There were many opportunities to work overtime. Many staff were experienced and had been at the company for a long time. Willing to give an opportunity to fresh grads in need of experience.

    Cons

Management often seemed disconnected from the staff. It was sometimes not optional to work excessive overtime, and this was not disclosed during the interview process.

    Advice to Management

Facilitate better training and mentorship of technologists, be clear about expectations before offering a job, encourage connection between management and rest of staff.

I worked at Associated Engineering full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

Like most every consulting company, there are still good people that work there. Average benefits.

    Cons

Typical old-school consulting company with no apparent interest in modern management philosophies. Management regularly fails in supporting projects by stripping project budgets to fund unnecessarily complex management systems. A great benefit to AE executives, but not to employees who suffer the additional pressure of the lack of project-level resources, or customers who's product suffers as a result.

    Advice to Management

Do mostly the opposite of what you're doing.
