Pros

There are some nice people working at Aspen Technology.

Cons

Managers/supervisors blame HR for high staff turnover and for the company’s continued difficulty in hiring and retaining staff, but the management is archaic and toxic and this is the real problem. Micromanagers from other departments are allowed to stifle sales opportunities and those in high positions lack insight into fundamental technology and processes that this company needs to scale and remove very outdated practices. There is a saying that people should always assume positive intent, but at Aspen Technology it seems like management always assumes negative intent. There is an approach to people that is passive aggressive and hostile which makes life here hard. The pay at this company is not competitive with other local businesses. This makes it hard to justify staying and withstanding poor treatment when there are so many opportunities where culture and pay are substantially better. There is no work from home culture - this change is being pushed from the bottom up which is not how successful cultural changes occur. Throughout the pandemic the executives remained hunkered down in their wing of as if it was some great act of defiance and resistance while the rest of the staff worked from home. This alone spoke volumes of the outdated culture of management. There are diversity and inclusion initiatives, but they are insincere which was obvious when the women in leadership group’s claim to fame is their ability to provide cupcakes at staff events and host meetings to encourage women’s advancement while having the predominant speaker and representative of the group be a senior male staff member. It's also appears that the company is pushing fake reviews on GlassDoor to help hiring initiatives which is disheartening - there should be real change, not trying to put up a facade to pull the wool over candidate's eyes.

Don't Bother To Waste Your Time There

Pros

AspenTech pulled themselves out of stock exchange de-listing which shows their commitment to staying afloat. They are a leader in their industry and have outlasted numerous competitors, or simply absorbed them into the business. They attempt to organize company 'fun' events and even have a dedicated committee to do such.

Cons

My years at AspenTech were the worst of my adult working life. When I joined the company there were very few employees with greater than 3 years tenure. I quickly learned why that was. AspenTech's management team cares only about themselves. They, along with high level HR representatives walk through the hallways with their eyes cast down to the floor to not have to engage with regular employees. Much of their time is spent looking for 'someone to blame' when things go wrong rather than focusing on a solution to the problem. Loyalty and regard for such do not exist at AspenTech. Rather than reward their best workers, they lump everyone together at review and evaluation time, decide upon a maximum they will spend on increases, and then expend a great deal of effort 'nit-picking' employees over non work-related issues to reduce their overall score on the employee review. Starting salaries are competitive, yet year-over-year increases are below cost of living increases. Work-life balance is another 'nonexistent' thing with AspenTech. Hours are set by management with no consideration for the needs of working parents or employees that travel more than 10 miles to work. Company expects 24 hour availability from employees by providing laptops, yet has a Draconian view of an employee working from home during blizzards, childcare emergencies, illness, etc. When it benefits Aspen they expect you to be available at all hours. When it benefits you - all bets are off. AspenTech is a bully culture environment with threats and intimidation being mistakenly viewed as 'motivation'. Managers should inspire their employees, not insult them.
