Unprofessional, Disorganized, and Falling Apart - Do Not Work Here

Pros

- Solid benefits and 401k match - Fun and creative company events - Work hard play hard approach, casual, no cult-y vibes - Friendly, fun staff - Fair compensation

Cons

After a “record-breaking hiring year”, AdAction has had three layoffs in the last 6 months, all of which came without warning. In fact, leadership is telling the team there are no financial issues while actively laying people off due to “budget cuts”. I think back to the extravagant company retreat we had just weeks after the first layoff, and wonder why they didn’t conserve funds for future layoffs that were clearly coming. In addition to this current red flag, there is a long-term issue with a lack of true growth opportunities and a nearly complete lack of feedback and constructive criticism. If you’re looking for supportive coaching from your manager, this is not the company for you. Depending on your role, you might be guessing how you’re doing for your entire tenure. I practically had to beg for help, support, and training and was often met with annoyance. What AdAction does is so hyper-niche and technical that it’s very challenging to learn what they do. There’s certainly nothing wrong with a challenge, but they put little to no effort into properly training new hires. I’ve talked to countless people on this staff that couldn’t fully describe the product or service 6+ months into their role due to this hole in onboarding. Hearing this was more common than those who felt competent and confident in their job. They are currently making some efforts to de-silo and train up, but they're also laying off reps before they can even complete said training. Currently, there are people still employed at AdAction who are being forced into entirely different jobs due to two restructures in 2023 alone. While a recession can’t be helped, the way this company planned financially as well as how they handled layoffs and reorgs speaks volumes. Avoid this company; if you’re not physically closing deals as a salesperson or running the actual client campaigns you are disposable to them. Yes, this includes if you were not hired for those roles. They just want to generate revenue at this time and aren’t thinking any further ahead than that. I would add a star for the pros listed above, but now knowing how sensitive the budget issues are, all of those fun events and benefits just feel like a facade.

Pros

Work/life balance, flexibility, remote work

Cons

It's hard to put into words how poorly run this company is. The CEO and CFO (his brother) are two frat guys who got lucky riding the coattails of a successful company in adtech company in Chicago. If that partnership ever goes away, AdAction will not exist. The other two VPs have absolutely no idea what they are doing and are directly responsible for several business failures (including layoffs) because there was no strategy or business plan. Several top employees left because the person running SEO is the absolute worst and they still kept him on, even after laying off the entire team that makes his job necessary. It makes absolutely no sense. This company has no plan, no direction, and treats loyal employees like afterthoughts. They have not learned to pivot from Covid and refuse to hire outside the states of Texas and Colorado, which is why they cannot attract top talent. Their pay rates are well below market because the CEO's brother doesn't want to pay people what market rates are.

Scary Culture and Product

Pros

Work life balance is pretty good, benefits are good, pay is average

Cons

Very fratty, non-professional culture. Close to half of the staff was laid off in the late 18 months, most without any warning. Leadership doesn't have a sold direction or vision. CEO picks favorites. Product is very sketchy, lots of ad fraud s overlooked.
