  1. Assistant Language Teacher (ALT) Interview

    Anonymous Employee in Japan

    Positive Experience
    Difficult Interview
    Application

I applied online. I interviewed at JET Program (Japan)

    Interview

The interview includes meeting a panel, one who will ask you tough questions in English, and another who may quiz you in Japanese. You will be asked about teaching, your adaptability and perseverance skills. You will also gain bonus points if you can answer questions in Japanese, but it isn't necessary.

No matter how much I prepared for the interview, I was asked extremely different questions compared to the information disseminated on the internet.
    Interview

    - How would you feel if you were given a placement in the North of Japan (As I put South on Placements) - What would you say to a child who tells you "I don't need to use English!" - What lesson idea would you teach in class? - Do you prefer countryside/ city? They will ask you about your school teaching methods, raise scenarios in which children will challenge you, and ask you how you will be able to cope if your placement ends up becoming a disappointment (this is a very real problem in JET in which one may end up in an unsatisfying school or area).
