Access Pharmaceuticals is developing treatments to tap into the cancer therapy market. The company makes pharmaceutical products based on nanopolymer chemistry and other drug delivery technologies. Its FDA-approved MuGard is a prescription oral rinse for the treatment of mucositis, or mouth ulceration, a common side effect of chemotherapy or radiation. MuGard has marketing approval in the US, and it is available in Europe through partner SpePharm. MuGard is also awaiting regulatory approvals for certain markets in Asia. Other Access products, including ovarian cancer candidate ProLindac and treatments and drug delivery technologies for solid tumors and diabetes, are in clinical and preclinical development.
