The University is seeking to recruit 12 Community Engagement Officers. Community Engagement Officers must be students who have some experience of living in private accommodation (off-campus).

These part-time (5 hours per week) posts are available from September 2026 on a fixed term basis until July 2027.

The starting salary will be from £25,528 per annum pro rata on Grade B depending on knowledge, skills and experience.

We have two teams of six Community Engagement Officers – the ‘East’ Team and the ‘West’ team.

Community Engagement Officers encourage the integration of students as active citizens and facilitate the work of the Community Liaison Team. The Community Engagement team works closely with the University, Residents Associations, local Police and City Council to support fellow students living off-campus.

Officers conduct active patrols in their area known as ‘walkabouts’, signposting students with community queries, attend community meetings and developing termly community projects. Officers also facilitate ongoing campaigns and initiatives. Walkabouts occur weekly for the duration of the scheme, but each term has does have a key theme:

Term 2: Community Projects

Term two provides more of an opportunity to be creative and focus on instigating a community project that helps to address a particular community issue or concern. Teams will be supported to develop their projects by the wider university team and other partners.

Term 3: Moving Out

The final term involves the promotion and implementation of the ‘Students on the Move’ scheme – a university funded collaboration with the City Council, focused on removing waste and boosting the recycling/reuse of household items prior to summer departures.

Officers have access to the Community Fund to develop projects that bring students and permanent residents together.

The Community Engagement Officer scheme has been developed and supported by the University, Exeter Community Safety Partnership, and Devon and Cornwall Constabulary.

Candidates must be available for in-person training on Wednesday 9th and Friday 11th September in Exeter.
