      Application

I applied through other source. I interviewed at onX in Nov 2025

      Interview

Initial interview was great. The recruiter was very friendly. The technical interview was not the best experience. The interviewer made no effort to get to know me before asking extremely specific questions I’d only know the answer to if I worked at like 1 of 100 companies on the world. Extremely specific map questions. You can always tell how intelligent an interviewer is by how much weight they put into specific topics. A good engineer should be able to quickly and easily learn new topics, so if the interviewer doesn’t realize that, then they probably aren’t a good engineer and shouldn’t be leading IMO.

How do you go about testing? (he was looking for a specific response to a very generic question)

I applied online. The process took 2 weeks. I interviewed at onX in Jan 2025

      Interview

Initial recruitment call, then a take home project of battleship, a second round going over the take home project, and another one on one interview with an engineering manager. The take home wasn't too hard, but since it's open ended you could put a lot of time into it.

      Application

I applied online. I interviewed at onX in Feb 2025

      Interview

The individual team members I met were all great. However, there were lots of problems with the process. The first is with the take home assignment. They said that it should only take 2 hours to complete, but they had an extensive list of requirements, which made it impossible to complete in that given time frame. I was given less than 48 hours to turn the assignment in--which I managed to do. And then, it wasn't clearly communicated to me that an interview was canceled because the interviewer wasn't available. So I showed up to an interview and I was only notified the interview was canceled when I emailed the recruiting coordinator. That took time out of my day because I blocked out my schedule in anticipation for having the interview at that time. The interview was rescheduled to almost two weeks later, and then was just moved up when I received another offer. After my interview process was over (I completed the final rounds with the company), I felt that all the interviews objectively went well, but I received a no-offer and wasn't provided an explanation on why I wasn't given an offer. I followed up with the recruiter, and they declined to state why--they wouldn't provide feedback because they stated that they wanted to ensure a fair process. This would have made sense if I had just gotten through a few rounds with the company, but given that I had interviewed with their entire team and spent over a month interviewing for the company, it would have been common courtesy to at least provide some feedback on why I wasn't given an offer. In my past experience interviewing for other companies (both large companies and start ups), I've always been given feedback when I requested it--and even when I didn't request it. This definitely made me question their culture/hiring practices. If I wasn't a culture fit for whatever reason, let me know!
