      Director of Assessment Interview

      21 Feb 2019
      Anonymous interview candidate
      No offer
      Negative experience
      Easy interview

      Application

I applied online. I interviewed at Wonderlic

      Interview

Saw the Director of Assessment position advertised for months in 2018. It was taken down for a few weeks. Then, it went back up again. Then down. Then up again. Figured this was a good time to apply. Sent resume via the Wonderlic company website. Got an email saying "We are interested. Please take the Wonderlic test using the link provided." Took the test. Got email saying "We are pursuing other candidates." Fine. However, no feedback as to why. Was it the test result? If so, I was not provided with my score so how was I to know I was that bad of a candidate compared to others who took the test? (My thesis was on the Wonderlic, by the way, and I know the test very well so I could not have flunked out that badly.) I accepted the decision. There are other candidates that could be more qualified. Sure. Now (2019 Feb), the job is posted again. How can a company NOT find a great candidate in 2 years? Is their HR Department that bad that they cannot find a perfect candidate (of all the great candidates they can choose from in the Chicagoland area)? Or is the Wonderlic organization that bad that they cannot hold on to new employees? Or......are they using this job listing as a way to collect data for their Wonderlic test and not pay the participants? The conspiracy theorist in my thinks this way: Post a job, have people send their resume, contact those whom you think would provide great data for the Wonderlic test, have them take the test (for free because they think they are taking it for the position), and then tell them you went with another candidate. A few months later, post the position again to collect more data.

Thank you for your feedback regarding the application process. We value our candidates and strive to be as open and responsive as possible throughout the hiring process. I am very sorry you did not have a positive experience. Regarding your desire for feedback on why you had not advanced to the next round, please note that the volume of applications we receive makes it very difficult to proactively provide a personalized reason to each candidate. Nonetheless, some candidates indeed reach out to ask for a specific reason why they are no longer being considered, and we happily provide the feedback to those who ask for it. Furthermore, anyone that takes time to interview with us, whether by phone or in person, receives ongoing 1:1 communication from HR or the hiring manager. It is also worth noting that when making a decision whether or not to pursue a candidate, we take into consideration an individual’s resume, experience, and responses to our application questions, in addition to his/her assessment results. For this reason, not being pursued is not necessarily an indication of how you scored on our assessment as we take many other things into account. We do not currently provide assessment results to our candidates as it is against our company policies due to administrative, operational and interpretive considerations, as well as ensuring that our organization does not compromise the integrity of the hiring process. Please also note that changes in the visibility of our job postings are related to how we manage our openings and optimize our postings on job boards. The Director of Assessment position is a highly specialized role that is therefore very difficult to fill, which is the primary reason it has remained open longer than usual, a little less than a year. Finally, I’d like to address your theory that our job listings are used as a way to collect data for our assessments, which I assure you is not at all true or plausible. Though it is a creative idea, a single specialized job posting is neither robust nor controlled enough to be useful for meaningful analysis. Each year we assess millions of candidates, and our top-notch team of Research Scientists must adhere to much more rigorous methods of data collection and segmentation to gain useful additional insights about candidates and jobs. Everyone who takes an assessment by applying to a Wonderlic job posting is under consideration for that job, and we deeply appreciate the time you invested in taking our assessments. I hope I have provided clarification in regards to your feedback and again, please receive our sincerest apologies for your negative experience.
