I applied online. I interviewed at Winston-Salem Police Department in Jan 2024
Interview
I applied in Jan 2024. The interviewing/hiring process is thorough. First I had to take a typing test and then I was interviewed by a panel of 3 members of the department, one included the manager of said department. I was selected to move to the next step, which was a general test that was in the next city over. The test took about 2-3 hours to complete. During this time, I had already submitted all information needed for a background check. After the test, I spent around 3 hours with an investigator to answer any and all questions regarding the last 34 years of my life. During this entire 6 months, not a single person was able to give me even a guess about the salary. On my application I listed what my expectations were. During the panel interview, I asked. “That’s so done through the city”. I asked the investigator, which obviously is not his job. The process, in its entirety, took 5 months. I was contacted on a weekday at 9pm and asked if I could meet with them the next morning to discuss a conditional offer. The conditional offer was $15k less than my listed expected salary. Shame on the city for wasting 5 months of resources and 5 months of my time. Rethink your hiring process.
