      Chapter Host Interview

      4 Feb 2023
      Anonymous interview candidate
      No offer
      Negative experience
      Difficult interview

      Application

I applied online. I interviewed at WiFi Tribe

      Interview

The interview process was incredibly rapid. Within less than a week of remote interviews, I was invited to an in-country month long "trial chapter" with two weeks notice. As they advertised in the job description, candidates must front the cost of airfare. These airfare costs were inflated since they provided such limited notice, and the travels were the weekend before a major travel holiday. I inquired about the selection criteria prior to booking to confirm that I was confident about being extended an offer. And to minimize costs, I limited the luggage I brought with me. Throughout the trial chapter, there was no structure to the final stage of interview process for candidates. I was originally told I would find out if I got the job halfway through the chapter (<2 weeks), but at the two week mark, I followed up with the leadership and they said that they were not going to inform us until after the end of the trial. I intentionally followed the criteria they provided before the trial, and afterwards they rejected me claiming I did not meet a new criterion that they never communicated. For anyone considering this position, I would recommend only doing so if you have the financial means. I ended up spending over $1000 USD for this job interview (flight + group activities) and that was while intentionally saying "no" to many group activities due to my financial limitations. It was also very disheartening that a company would make candidates bend over backwards to accommodate a one-month trip (where candidates pay the costs up front) with less than two weeks notice. Let alone do so without reciprocating with basic considerations like communicating changes in decisioning timelines, selection criteria, and not provide any structure for equitably assessing all candidates.
