I participated in a multi-stage interview process for an Executive Assistant position and ultimately chose to withdraw my candidacy after careful consideration.
Throughout the process, I appreciated the opportunity to meet members of the leadership team and learn more about the institution's mission. My interactions were professional and respectful, and I remain grateful for the time and consideration extended to me as a candidate.
My decision to withdraw was not based on the role itself, but rather on the overall hiring process. The process extended over nearly two months and included multiple rounds of interviews, reference checks, and follow-up communications. During that time, there were periods of limited communication, shifting timelines, and uncertainty regarding next steps. There were also occasions when calendar invitations were sent without complete meeting details or logistics, requiring additional follow-up for clarification.
I understand that hiring processes can be complex, particularly for senior-level positions. However, candidates are often making significant career and financial decisions while navigating these opportunities. Consistent communication, clear expectations, and timely updates can make a meaningful difference in the overall candidate experience.
My feedback is not about the outcome. Organizations have every right to select the candidate they believe is the best fit. Rather, my feedback is centered on the recruitment process and the importance of maintaining clear, timely communication throughout an extended search.
I sincerely wish the institution, its leadership, and its future employees continued success, and I hope this feedback is received in the constructive spirit in which it is intended.

Interview questions focused on executive support, board governance, calendar management, executive travel, confidentiality, stakeholder relations, prioritization, and behavioral examples involving problem-solving and mistake recovery. Candidates should be prepared to discuss experience supporting senior leaders, boards, and complex organizational operations.

Interview
The interview process in the department was thorough and engaging. However, the HR process left much to be desired. The next steps were not clear and much of my information was input incorrectly. I did not receive the employee handbook until I found it 1 year later on the shared drive.
