Interview
You can learn a lot about a company by how they treat candidates during the hiring process.
There were two interviews.
Because of the pandemic both interviews were by video.
The first interview was a typical introduction interview where I was asked the standard questions, like ‘Tell us about yourself’ and ‘Why do you want to work here’.
I was told I would hear back within a day or two, and then everything went silent for a week.
A full week after the first interview I suddenly received a call, telling me the manager responsible wanted to do the interview today!
I found this very disrespectful, but I accepted.
When the interview started the manager didn’t apologize for the too short notice.
Next they asked me to walk them through my CV, which I had already done in the first interview. Then they asked a few behavioural questions, but the 2nd interview was basically just a repeat of the first. The interviewer even admitted they hadn’t even talked to the person conducting the 1st interview.
The most egregious lack of common courtesy happened halfway through the interview. The manager interupted me in the middle of my answer and paused the interview to go and chat to someone in the office!
Again I was told I would hear back in a couple of days, and again there was nothing but radio silence. After a week I reached out to the recruiter to get an update, and received no response. I was ghosted.
The level of disrespect and unprofessionalism I received from the 2nd interviewer is beyond anything I have ever experienced before.
Not even at the interviewing stage, when both the potential hire AND the employer have to be on their best behaviour, did they bother to try to come across as an attractive place to work.
Since they think this is an acceptable way to treat people, I will advise anyone interviewing with them to think twice.
