      Social Media Manager Interview

      6 Dec 2021
      Anonymous interview candidate
      Winter Park, FL
      No offer
      Negative experience
      Difficult interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 5 weeks. I interviewed at Wedluxe Magazine (Winter Park, FL)

      Interview

It is incredibly rude, unprofessional, and exploitative to have a potential employee complete MULTIPLE time-consuming sample projects before the interview, keep them for a two hour interview, and have them complete a sample project while at the interview… just to completely “ghost them” even when the potential employee follows up with multiple professional emails asking for updates with no response (one time there was a brief email sent back shortly after the interview to say they would get back to me but I never heard from them after that). It should also be noted they said they would get back to me within the week and it’s been over a month since I originally interviewed. No one is obligated to hire anyone, but it is bad business practice to not at least tell candidates that you have just put through a rigorous hiring process that the position has been filled by another candidate. But it looks like I dodged a massive bullet after reading former employee reviews and ownership’s petty responses. Maybe it’s time for some self reflection?

This was disappointing and surprising to read, Madison Orr. You drove in from a long distance so we combined what would normally have been 2 interviews into 1 in order to save you the time of a return trip. Multiple tasks in an interview, especially in a position as important as this is not unusual. Though we enjoyed meeting with you, ultimately the distance in driving would have been a concern of ours. Right after your interview we had a number of surprise deadlines for upcoming projects so we had to put hiring for this position on-hold and it was not feasible to then reach out individually to everyone who had applied to keep them updated. Nobody was ghosting you or exploiting you simply because you didn't get the kind of response that you wanted according to your timeline. You are correct about dodging a bullet though - I'm glad we did.
