      Full Stack Developer Interview

      7 Feb 2018
      Anonymous interview candidate
      Schaumburg, IL
      No offer
      Negative experience
      Easy interview

      Application

I applied through other source. I interviewed at WebToMed (Schaumburg, IL) in Dec 2017

      Interview

I got an invite from Indeed.com for a phone screen. I spoke with them and gave my skills background. Next they sent me a link to take a PHP test. The test was to create a MySQL database with the data they've provided. Create a PHP page and analyze the data. Then there's multiple questions based on the result. The test was easy which took about an hour. You must set it up on your local server. I passed the test and they invited me for an in-person interview with. The interview was more than an hour. They asked a lot of questions (in details). I thought the interview went well. I answered all the questions and felt I fit the position. They asked me when I would be available and I said 1 month. They seemed concerned on the start date but I explained to them I have to train my 2 developers. I didn't hear from them after 2 weeks so I followed up letting them know that I'm ready to make a move. It seemed like they liked me but they never replied to my email. That same week I got another Indeed.com invite from the same person for a phone screen. I assumed they wanted me come in for a 3rd interview. They never replied to me. Suggestion to WebToMed: If you don't think that person is qualified for the job, at least let them know that you've decided not to consider that person for the role. It's a bad impression. I read all the Glassdoor reviews before interviewing with them. Some were good and most were bad. You can tell that most of the negativity are from past employers who probably got fired. I accepted the interview regardless of the bad reviews because I wanted to see for myself. I don't think bad of the company but I do give them thumbs down on the interview process. I did leave my current job as planned and accepted an offer with another company.

      Interview

Phone Screening -> Skills test -> In person interviews (2) All of the interviews were very conversational. The HR person is very, very, very friendly. They gave lightning fast feedback! There's 2 skills test: one for HTML/CSS/JS (60 min) and one for PHP/MySQL (90 min). No npm/composer libraries or anything. Make sure you can use do SQL queries with PHP and some basic DOM manipulation with vanilla javascript. The in-person interviews were mostly walking through your CV with a few typical interview questions sprinkled in. The first in person interview had large focus on what makes you tick and where your passions are. These were some of the most comfortable interviews; I give an A+ for this. Also, I give an A+ for the wildly fast feedback; they invited my back for round 2, before I got home. For criticism, I wish they would have pushed a bit harder on the areas that gave them pause or expressed some disappoint in my answers so I might clarify and/or try again.
