Senior Manager, Information Security Operations Interview

      9 Apr 2018
      Anonymous interview candidate
      Burbank, CA
      Declined offer
      Negative experience
      Average interview

      Application

The process took 4 weeks. I interviewed at Warner Bros. (Burbank, CA) in Aug 2016

      Interview

The interview process consisted of interviewing with a very nice internal recruiter. She spoke a bit about the company and asked me some generic tech questions and was interested in my background. I then had a follow up skype interview with the director of SOC, the gentleman was polite and knowledgeable. He asked me a number of scenario questions we spoke some about his vision for what the soc should look like and we discussed my visions. The next step was when things took a downturn, so I showed up for my onsite interview, I was let up into a section of the office where no one was there to greet me and was left alone along with a number of unattended cubicles, after waiting for about 20 minutes, I called the HR point of contact to find out why I was still waiting for someone to come get me, she was confused as to how I was there and eventually, 40 minutes after I got there, led me to a a small conference room. Things went from bad to worse, I found out that the people that would be reporting INTO me, would be interviewing me, it was supposed to be a 6 hour interview broken down primarily into groups of two people that report into me. Most of the team was fantastic, however, there was clearly one engineer on the team who felt like he should have been considered for the role, he started his questioning by attempting to attack my background and then insulting my ethnic name. His colleague who was in the room, was just very quiet and was not saying or doing anything. After the 4 interviews with the team members, I had a 45 minutes interview with the director and then was given a tour of the lot, assuming as a recruiting tool. After coming back, I had a very pleasant interview with the CISO. The interview process was an absolute waste of time as the people interviewing you, should not be the people that are going to be reporting into you. It's fine if they're in a panel, but that should not be the norm. Moreover, having overtly racist comments during an interview are never acceptable and show a lack of overall company values and structures.
