I applied online. I interviewed at Wander Films (Middlesbrough, England) in Mar 2024
Interview
I was emailed later than expected after my application, where it was explained that the role was actually an apprenticeship (which was not stated on the job posting until it was later edited). I was keen on applying still despite my degree and industry experience as I was led to believe by peers that the company is a very friendly place to develop your skills and I was willing to study again to work there. During this email I was asked for my details to check that I was eligible for this apprenticeship, and then heard nothing back for a week after I responded.
The email I received a week later stated that my interview would be cancelled due to me not responding to their email invite. I searched my inbox and found nothing, so I replied letting them know that I had missed this invite. I then found the invite in my spam folder (which I don’t often check as I rarely have these issues, which I’ve now learned from). I replied again asking if I could still be interviewed, seen as though the invite was sent only the day before and they had not stated that there was a 24 hour time limit to respond. I heard nothing back the next day, so I assumed they had written me off; since they expect quick communication, I expected the same back.
I was left with a bad taste in my mouth, as a very minor mistake over an extremely short time period cost me an interview. In the past I have received emails from other recruiters checking I have seen interview invites etc within the same day and have always been quick to respond.
Either they expect quick communication from candidates whilst not willing to return the favour, or I was ghosted due to a minor mistake. I could’ve been doing absolutely anything that day, and they assumed that I rejected them without checking at all. I’ve never had something like this happen ever.
It’s especially insulting since the “Junior” role is actually an apprenticeship, which is not the same position. I was willing to overlook these red flags and give them the benefit of the doubt, but I was shocked with how they communicate with people.
I was very disappointed, since Wander markets themselves being so friendly and down-to-earth.

Hi, I hope you're well. I have looked into your concern and can see that communication was made by us on numerous occasions. We had a high volume of applicants so if an interview is offered and not responded to, we have to offer the slot to another candidate. This review doesn't reflect our application process but we wish you all the best in the future.
