      IT Security Authority Interview

      27 Aug 2013
      Anonymous interview candidate
      Newbury, England
      No offer
      Positive experience
      Easy interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 2 weeks. I interviewed at Vodafone (Newbury, England) in May 2013

      Interview

I applied for the role as an internal, as I wanted to leave Germany for UK. I found the job in the internal job posting site and found out it was a friend of mine leaving for another company. I applied and was told I was perfect for the role: it was my same band, and I were already performing the duty within another local market. I was therefore successful in passing the initial acceptance phase as a candidate. I was asked to import my CV into the Taleo system, which requires a bit of time, but it is doable, as you can import your CV from Word format and then adjust the mistakes. I was also sent a link to an attitudinal test to perform on line. I do not remember the actual brand of test, but it was an intelligence test - it was the kind where you have a sequence of pictures and you have to tell which one is the next, possibly because it was a technical role; you may have other tests such as analytical reasoning or emotional intelligence tests for other roles. However, what I did was to check which kind of test it was before doing it, using Google to find free example tests - which you can find easily - and spend some hours practising them. Definitively it helped, although there was very little time to complete the test, i could not finish it completely but it was enough to pass it. As I passed the test, I had an interview with the HR person and the manager scheduled. We performed it via video-conference which was really OK. The interview went very pleasant and I got the classical questions you may have: why do you want to change, which kind of person are you, technical questions on the job matter, quick digression on things written on my CV and my education. Honestly, they are the kind of things you would reasonably expect in a classic interview. I really thought it was OK, certainly it was the best I could do, and I expected I would have been offered the job. However, some times after the HR woman contacted me with a laconic message, kind of "we need to speak urgently, it will only take a few minutes, can you make some time today?" which sounded already rude. I was told I would not get the job because I could not "deal with stakeholders" as expected from this position. Needless to say, it was not in the job profile description, neither I got a written explanation for that. I later discovered that my actual and possibly future manager got to speak together and my current one blocked my move into the new position with a subtle excuse. They also told me there was no other candidate, I was just excluded.

      Question 1

Honestly, nothing I found difficult, except the on line IQ test.

      Question 2

They made questions about experiences or studies in my CV which may have been looking awkward or unrelated. Nothing problematic and can be actually a pleasant digression to soften the overall tone of the appointment.
