I applied online. I interviewed at Victor Valley College (Victorville, CA) in Sept 2024
Interview
A paper with questions to be given during the interview was handed out prior to interview. Scratch paper was also given as the questionnaire was not allowed to be written on. Interview was limited to 25 min for 10 questions.

Question 1
One question asked on prioritizing a conditional experience between students and President at school demands.
The position was posted in late January and then canceled without explanation. The position was then reposted in late March. In California, this is usually a sign that they got applicants who were qualified that were more qualified than the person they wanted to hire. I received an email informing me that there would be a first-round in-person interview. Given the that applicant has to pay to get to the first interview and that these interviews are usually done via zoom this was also suspect. The interview consisted of being given the interview questions by HR which were written questions like "Why do you want to teach at our school?" or "What does diversity mean to you?" I was given 10 minutes to review the questions and HR took my cell phone. After that, I was led into the interview room. The committee consisted of 8 people including an HR person who clearly stated "I am from HR and I am here to ensure that all candidates are treated fairly." This was another red flag. There was no one with my demographic background on the hiring committee. They explained the strict time limit on question responses and the teaching demonstration. The interview consisted of the hiring committee reading the interview questions and me responding to them. I then gave a brief teaching demonstration. None of my responses were out of the ordinary and were typical for this type of interview. After the interview was over one of the committee members asked for my "notes" that I made of the interview questions in a rather stern tone of voice. Throughout the interview, it was obvious that the committee was "following all of the official rules" like robots and was not interested in talking with me. About an hour after the interview, I got a voicemail from HR telling me that I did not make the second round of finalist interviews. I know for a fact that I was likely their most qualified candidate. It's pretty obvious that they used the "official rules and procedures" to cover up for the fact that they wanted to hire one of their friends or relatives.
