I applied through an employee referral. The process took 2 months. I interviewed at Vanguard (Malvern, PA) in Jul 2024
Interview
Steps:
1. 20 minute phone screen with recruiter: They tell you about the role and confirm a few things about the role and your background (Ability to work in the US without sponsorship, Relocation required to Malvern, Hybrid work model). Nothing to really prepare for here.
2. Case Study Interview: A case study prompt is provided half an hour before the interview and you're asked to come up with a high level design for the product/feature that you're asked to design. The case study discussion is just a part of this interview. It starts off by the interviewer asking a bit about your background and your interests. Then moves on to a combination of behavioral questions (Tell me about a time ...) and conceptual questions (Object oriented principles and/or data structures). The final part of the interview is for the case study. You'll be asked to present your design and there is some cross questioning about your design for additional details.
3. Behavioral Interview: This round is purely behavioral, usually with a higher up of the interviewer from the previous round. Use the STAR method to answer all questions.
After this round, the recruiter reached out to me and said they went with a slightly more competitive candidate. After a couple of weeks, the recruiter reached out with a new meeting invitation and said that since my interviewing feedback was good, another team was looking to fill a similar role.
4. Informational Overview: This round was less like an interview and more a team matching/informational overview round. This was with a whole team (4 people). They asked me about my interests within the field for the most part and then introduced themselves and what their role is within that team.
All in all, it was a good interview experience. Only thing I would say is, the whole process was stretched out over a couple of months, which felt long
