I applied online. The process took 2 weeks. I interviewed at VIPKid (Houston, TX) in Oct 2017
Interview
If you want this job, prepare well! I have no idea how many hours I spent of prep. Likely over 20.
Initially, you apply and if you have teaching experience and a Bachelor's degree you proceed to next level. You can either do a demo video or teach a demo class to a team member in Beijing. (I went with the video). You will get feedback on the video, and if you pass you move on to the Mock Class stage During Mock 1 you teach 15 minutes of a lower level class to a mentor and receive feedback. Then, in the same video call you will teach 10 minutes of an upper level class, and get feedback. Many (most from what I understand) then receive feedback and have to teach another Mock class (Mock 2). I was offered the position about 10 minutes via email after my Mock 1 class, so cannot speak to what Mock 2 is like from experience.
It is an incredibly extensive and challenging process. But the process itself prepares one for the job.
I can't wait to get started!
Got hired as a British speaking then cancelled as not from America which I disclosed at the first interview which I think was silly and unprofessional at the time it was during covid when this happpened.
Very lenghthy interview process, but the interviewers were nice and helpful. There were several steps to the process and it was pretty involved. I had to prepare a lesson beforehand
It was easy an straightforward. 1 interview and 2 mock classes to pass. They offer a contract for a year with option to renew after 1st contract is over. Overall the process last for about 2 weeks from the time you apply unless you are waitlisted.
