      Retail Wireless Consultant Interview

      1 Nov 2012
      Anonymous employee
      Accepted offer
      Positive experience
      Average interview

      Application

I applied in-person. The process took 2 weeks. I interviewed at UScellular

      Interview

I searched their website for open positions in my area. I saw there were open interviews in a couple of weeks, so instead of just showing up with resume in hand, I filled it out online first. Then I was sent by email a personality test to fill out. Things like do you agree with the following statement "I feel guilty when I poop". Okay so maybe not that bad, but alot of behavioral type questions. Then if you pass that to their approval they send you a skills test. This is kid of like a simulation of how you would sell to different customers in a given situation. It was very much like Best Buy type environment. Then after that was submitted, I didn't hear back. I'm assuming because they were waiting to get the candidates from the open interviews into the system as well. I showed up at the start of the interviews, resume in hand. I told them I had already filled out the online portion of things, and was informed that put me ahead of everyone else and would make their job easier. I had an interview which really consisted of a manger reading my resume and asking me 3 performance based questions. The questions were the remember a time sort. Which normally I do well on, but the things they asked were so obscure that I had difficulty remember specific instances. The 3 questions I got were: (1) Tell me about a time when you had to greet someone. (2) Tell me about a time when you had to enter and read information from a computer system. (3) Tell me about a time when you had to sell someone something. They wanted an answer that described what the situation was, what you did, and what the result was. I was told I would receive a call the same day about whether I would move onto the next round of selection. I didn't, but I received and email the following day asking me to fill in some background check information. Then that day I received an email from the background check company asking me to verify some info and send some documents in. two business days later I received a call from the recruiter with the job offer pending the outcome of a drug test that I had 48 hours to complete. I took it that day. My advice: Fill out all the info online, show up prepared for an interview if available, dress well and have all your ducks in a row. Then as they send you things to complete, do them immediately. Be as nice to everyone in the process as you can be, because you never know who is giving the recruiter feedback. If you're johnny on the spot before you get the job, they will know you will be a good employee.
