      Application

I applied online. I interviewed at TikTok (Manila, Manila)

      Interview

Talent acquisition team was really a joy to talk to. Had 2 rounds of interviews: Initial interviewer was really good. On time and punctual. Introduced herself and showed herself on camera. She started with a structure of how the interview will go. Questions were a mix of technical, behavioral and she also gave a good perspective on the job. Final interviewer was a mess. For a hiring manager, I felt that the initial interviewer was even more qualified than the final one. She did not bother opening her camera. Her overall demeanor was very off even when she is introducing herself. She felt stand-offish. I felt like the interviewer doesn't want to be in this call. She started off with the usual questions - describe myself, what are the current trends you see in tiktok and notable accomplishments. After 15 mins, she cut the interview already - which I felt was really off since my initial interview even took as much as 45 minutes - 50 minutes. At the end, she asked if I had questions. Since the interview felt rushed, I then clarified if she has any hesitations about my job skills and capabilities? She then told me she was looking for a "data driven" person. In my head, I was actually expecting a data question since the Youtube videos on ByteStyles actually talked about this in length. First off - there wasn't any question about DATA in the only 4 QUESTIONS she asked. She never probed this in detail nor was DATA even mentioned in anyway. Had I not clarified this question, I wouldn't have been able to highlight this skillset. Overall, the final interviewer I believe was not qualified to do the interview. Maybe give people a chance to respond and ask specific questions and further probe. Don't just ask 4 questions - cut it off and keep it under 15 mins. This is the shortest final interview I've had in my life and I've had a technical interview with giants like Google and Facebook that even took as much as 1 - 2 hours because they really dig deep into candidates.
