      Support Worker Interview

      1 Jan 2017
      Anonymous interview candidate
      Cardiff, Wales
      No offer
      Negative experience
      Difficult interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 4 weeks. I interviewed at The Wallich (Cardiff, Wales) in Jul 2016

      Interview

'Competence Based' interview; in front of a panel of interviewers. They wanted examples from my past work experience. Even though I was working for The Wallich Clifford Community as a Relief Support Worker, I was interviewed as if I had no knowledge or experience of the job. The interview was formal. I had met the interviewers before, but they and I had to pretend that we did not know each other. I felt at times that they did not understand my answers. The reason for this is that I had worked in a very similar job for a long time in the past and had learned the kinds of people skills that cannot be taught only learned by experience. The interviewers had not worked in such a way and therefore could not understand what I was talking about.

      Interview questions [1]

      Question 1

Can you describe a situation where you solved an issue of conflict? What would you do if a client made sexual advances or spoke inappropriately to you? What would you do if you saw a colleague acting unethically? How would you engage a group of disengaged clients? What else can you bring to the job?
