I had two zoom interviews with one of the senior editors. We discussed my previous experience with developmental editing and technology. I really liked them, and I liked what I heard about the company. However, after the two interviews, I was told the payment method for DE services was royalties, in that I would not get paid until the book was published and sold. Since I as an editor have zero control of how well a book is marketed and sold, this was an undesirable payment model for me. I also discovered that once I was paid, if someone bought a book and then returned it, I would have to pay back any royalties I'd received for that title.
The person I interviewed with said that they were talking about changing the royalties payment model, but didn't know when that would occur. So I decided not to work for them.
