First-round- phone interview with the recruiter. It went well. Just usual talk about background and experience.
The second round was scheduled a week later with the hiring manager. I joined the call as per the schedule and the interviewer did not show up. I communicated with the recruiter about what happened. Later in the day, they informed me that the interviewer was sick.
So second round was rescheduled for the next week. I joined as planned and the interviewer didn't show up AGAIN. I spoke with the recruiter and this time I communicated to her how disappointed I was with the unprofessionalism of the hiring manager and in general disappointed with Cigna. Again later they informed me that he was sick. I was disappointed that he did not value my time and did not even make an effort to communicate about the situation with me or the recruiters. Of course, I would never like to work with someone who doesn't value me, my time, and the efforts I am taking to prep for the interview.
The next day the hiring manager called me on my cell phone (without prior notice) and apologized and checked if I was still interested. I thought of giving another chance and agreed to the interview. As scheduled I appeared for the interview. The hiring manager also joined (finally!). However, he decided to NOT to turn on the video in the video call meeting. Not even a minute in the call and I had made my decision!! I have appeared for so many interviews but have never had an unprofessional experience like this before.
I agree sometimes the situation is not under our control but communication is important to avoid inconvenience caused to others. I would not have minded if he would have emailed me at least 10 mins before the call. But just not showing up shows negligence and unprofessional work culture.
